Does anyone know why Port 587 is set with a default of block. Verizon had ther customers switch from Port 25 to Port 587 for outbound email but I couldn't connect on 587. Upon receipt of my weekly security report, reporting 246 blocked outbound attempts on Port 587 I realized my outbound email problem was caused by my Z100G. After setting rules allowing Port 587 to connect to the WAN my Verizon email returned to normal.

Port 25 is the usual port for SMTP mail. I suspect that Verizon and other ISPs change it as an anti spam tactic. My ISP uses non-standard ports for both POP3 and SMTP.

On security level High only standard e-mail ports are opened by default, this is part of the security policy design.

On security levels Medium and Low you do not need specific rules for port 587.
