I have posted in the suggestion forum the links showing all the competing products supporting Syslog, and my desire to monitor/react REAL TIME and report to dshild.org any attacks I am receiving.
I am hosting a personal web site, and REAL TIME, not email notification AFTER an event is desired. I have TWO major issues with this product right now - as my goal was to shield/monitor the activities within my home - I can not white list sites - so the filter is useless as it blocks part of Disney sites with it's generic settings, and reports are AFTER events occur. |

The lack of syslog has already been discussed on the suggestions forum... There is a "rumor" that it is being implemented in a future release but so far according to Sofaware Support and Erez's previous postings, the answer is NO
Please go look on the Suggestion forum before rehashing this argument Disclamer: I am not a representative of Sofaware and the opinions expressed are of me, the poster.. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bugeek, |

Posted July 08, 2007 03:03 PM Are you authorized to speak on their behalf? If not, then please don't answer my post as if you can. You appear to be a valuable asset to the community for troubleshooting issues with your posts, so I would suggest you don't put yourself into a position where you appear as if you are answering on behalf of Sofaware or the Admin's. Also, FWIW - my post is a follow-up to my previous suggestion that was closed, due to someone's inappropriate comments; so I'm well aware on how the forum's work, I've been reading them since April - shortly after receiving one of the first units - and dealing with all the issues we all have been. FYI - Since Syslog already exists in all the other products, and they use a common code base, to allow it is trivial - no need to dangle the "rumor" or "future", just remove the exception code. The SOHO argument is moot when the free/sub $100 products include it. This is the FIRST hardware product in 7 years I have owned that DOES NOT support syslog. Look here - http://www.dshield.org/howto.html |

I have never once claimed to represent sofaware... And back to what iv repeatedly said before.. this is a USER to USER forum... and according to documents iv read, its also NOT AN OFFICIAL SUPPORT FORUM FOR SOFAWARE PRODUCTS.... they do it out of courtesy.. Disclamer: I am not a representative of Sofaware and the opinions expressed are of me, the poster.. |

If you read through the suggestions forum, another whiney user was mentioning that there was a rumor of them enabling Syslog. Hence I could not confirm it, and called it a rumor..
Second I never once have said in any way i represent Sofaware or implied such. In fact all my future posts will contain a disclamer as such... You bought the appliance with what it had, not what it did not.. if you dont like it its TOO DAMN BAD... go get another one.. Second it has been stated in one of the pages that this is NOT an OFFICIAL support area.. and that if you need official support, open a trouble ticket.. the fact that the Sofaware people are courteous enough to chime in and help out is a COURTESY not a requirement... It isnt the first hardware product without Syslog support btw. But it is a shortcoming.. I will not comment on Dshield... You could always packet sniff with Wireshark/Ethereal if it really bothers you. As an aside I don't appreciate your thinly veiled threats stating I'm trying to represent/misrepresent Sofaware.. Just sick of people rehashing the same thing over and over again. Disclamer: I am not a representative of Sofaware and the opinions expressed are of me, the poster.. This message has been edited. I would like to confirm that we are considering adding syslog support for the Z100G security router although i cannot commit on a time frame.
I can say that it will be in future release 7.5.x Sagy Kratu Technical Support Team Manager |

Guys, the accusations and defensiveness are not necessary. I think there is just a misunderstanding as to who this board represents.
Ekarasin, I have to agree with bugeek on this issue. This is a user forum and you posted a question here which implies that you are asking users to comment (that's what we do here) and bugeek, in my opinion, gave a very high-level response that collectively brought the discussion to date based on the user commnunity knowledge. It is very common for users to assume this is a technical support group, but it is not. Questions and comments to Sofaware should be sent direct through their contacts process or live chat. Bugeek has been very helpful to many new members over the past several months. I didn't find his response to your question to be inappropriate at all. Keep in mind that you posted to a forum and while you may not have appreciated his response, many other new users may not have been aware of the SYSLOG discussion and he just simply updated the forum. Thanks for listening. the rocket |

I/we have an official answer from Sagy - which is what my post was after - and I would have used my "suggestion post" if it was not "closed." What would have been better (suggestion), is if SofaWare updated that status.
Texas Rocket - Point taken. It's valid to a degree, as parts are users, others company. A "To:Sofaware" would have not gotten a response from bugeek. If either of you never have, take a look at the Zone Alarm forums - http://forums.zonealarm.org/zonelabs/ different beast, was there for years - never had to post, as answers were always already in there. Expected the same type of support/information/manual updates, etc for this product - my frustration clearly showed in this post. |

Thanks. You're value to the forum is starting to show. Thanks for the information on the syslog sites and keep asking questions. Sofaware does monitor this as you have found out.
