I just bought my Z100G router and it is all setup and running fine. I did, also, buy a networkable printer, Canon MX700. Since, it has an ethernet port, I want to connect the printer to router using cat5 cable instead of the USB. But the guide that came with Z100G router has instructions for making USB connection only. Does that mean that the print server won't work if I use ethernet cable to connect the printer to the router?
No. You can use the printer by plugging it into an Ethernet LAN port. The Z100G has a built in print server that allows USB printers to be shared. Since you have an ethernet-based printer that has built in print server functionality, you can simply connect it to the router through a LAN port and use the Canon instructions for setting up the printer. Smart move, by the way.
If you decide to do the USB route, got a hint for you.. instead of using my.firewall for the TCP/IP Printing Port in windoze, use the LAN IP of the Firewall.. For some reason this resolved my problem printing to a particular printer (Xerox Phaser 6130 over USB)
