Since I started reading this forum, there are several feature points that have been either requested by users frequently or are glaringly missing.

1. LAN/WLAN bridge. Gotta have it. It can be off by default, but it needs to be there.

2. Node license selection. Obviously, there are going to be nodes on a network that do not need to be licensed. I have several that I am planning on adding (IP Camera, printer) and already have (VOIP) that do not need to be covered by licensing. And just automatically licensing PC's won't work as there are times that I may put a test box on the web that doesn't need it or is just not appropriate (VMWare anyone?).

3. SNMP.

4. Speed tests. I know, this is my personal issue, but what if I didn't think about a previous issue where I saw the same thing I'd be stuck between my ISP support and Sofaware support until someone thought of it. A simple app run outside the firewall that works through something similar to what is on DSLReports.

5. QoS.

Anything else?

A> The ability to block specific devices, like ethernet hard drives and printers, from taking a license. Or more licenses - someone mentioned 10 in another posting. Or both (best option as it give the user more flexibility)

B> The ability to put a USB hard drive on the device and use it as a shared hard drive. Another post suggested USB memory sticks too.

I can see them improving the licensing and bridging Lan/Wan (which they have announced is coming), and I can see perhaps expanding the functionality of the USB interface.
On the other hand, bumping up the performance, adding QOS, SNMP, etc. -- that starts eating into the 500/500W featureset.
IMHO, for $149 this is a pretty potent device. I have not found anything else at this pricepoint that has anywhere near the features. Linksys for instance wants nearly $200 for wireless and VPN only.
I wonder whether your requirements may be pushing what the Z100G can offer. Have you looked at the 500W ? It is available from a number of internet resellers (at about double the Z100G), and may meet your requirements.

You will probably *NEVER see SNMP or full QOS in this appliance.. this is a prosumer device and that is one of the few things that differentiates this from their higher end products...

You will probably see..
Transparent bridging....its a well known sore spot on this device...

You might see
Syslog.. Enough lower end products include it, incloding my cheapass Westell DSL router..

Basic QOS... Not full QOS like their professional gear, enough to handle possibly a VOIP appliance and possibly a Game Console (360)

Some sort of use of the usb ports
(These are not views of a representative of Sofaware or an employee, just interpretations of previous posts and replies to forum messages)

Speed tests directly from the appliace could be a very useful feature... Kinda like the idea

The performance problems you seem to be having are probably configuration/and or the fact the firewall does not speed test accurately.. common mistake is people turning Vstream on for things other than Pop3 and mail transport agents..

Hang in there a week or so.. least the bridging update is supposed to be out then...

Hi,

We thank you for your suggestions, and appreciate your feedback. We are listening, and you can expect #1 and #2 to be available really soon.

Regarding SNMP, QoS, and Syslog, we recommend taking a look at the Safe@Office 500 line which include all of these features, and much, much more, at prices starting from $300. As I'm sure you can understand, building an appliance with real enterprise-class security at such a low price point ($150 promotional price), forced us to sacrifice some features which we feel are less critical to the consumer market.

We highly appreciate your feedback, and any additional suggestions are welcome.
