I have a network printer connected to my Z100G and last night I noticed 3 test pages that were printed from a PC outside of my house. My guess it's one of my neighbors. Does anyone have any idea how this could happen and what I possibily could have configured wrong.
1. I'm using a WPA key 2. I have the bridge connection turned on so I can print wirelessly from my laptop 3. I have the printer setup as a network object |

Make sure you go into WLAN settings and give your WLAN a unique name that is not obvious. Then, go into advanced settings and set "Hide the Network Name (SSID)" to YES.

Thanks Tex
I already had given it a unique name, so I went in and hid the SSID. Hopefully that will work. I don't mind the printer issue, but I don't want anyone getting to my PC's |

Donski,
Hiding the SSID is not a security solution, there are a LOT of programs that can show hidden SSIDs. So I'll suggest: 1.- Use WPA2 2.- Use a STRONG password: at least 10 chars long, at least 3 of them numeric, 3 of them alphanumeric and 3 of them non "standard" (i.e. $%"!?=, etc.) 3.- Filter your WLAN also by MAC address 4.- Hide the SSID Hope that helps, good luck -------------------------------- so far so good |

Thanks
I was already doing 2 & 4, so I added items 1 & 3 and hopefully that will do the trick |

Good points. I thought you were using WPA2, but I was really going on the premise that a neighbor found you by broadcast. However, are you absolutely positive that it came from outside the network? Because even if someone got onto your network, they would have to configure their machine to be able to print to your printer. Not easy, without working at it. Do the printouts tell you anything?

It definitely came from the outside. I only have 2 PC's a workstation and a laptop. The only usable information is the date/time, computer name, and port name which is "72.224.113.17"

That's a road runner address from Troy NY. Who is your provider? What is your WAN address?
