I was getting a constant 10mb/sec download, now with web filtering turned on, it drops down to 5mb/sec download. When I turn web filtering off, it jumps back up to 10mb/sec download. Why is web filtering slowing down the connection and is there a fix for this?

I have dsl and i get the same speed (up & down) with filtering on or off. How are you measuring? I'm using dslreports.com speed test. It's my understanding that only port 80 traffic is web filtered.

And Anti-virus will kill the connection speed too.

Any update on this issue? I just checked my speed on cnet.com and web filtering is slowing me by about half also.

I am also experiencing the slow down, have turned it off due to the dramatic drop in speed.

Remember, if you have filtering on or Vstream the ZA has to actually apply the filter to the incoming data so of course theres going to be a performance hit. But I tend to agree.. it shouldnt have quite the overhead it currently does... Its no different than a PC in this regard... If you have AV software on it and content protection, its going to slow things down a bit... (esp if its filtering by proxy)

With me, V-stream has little or no affect on speed. I opened a problem ticket with sofaware. I'll post what they have to say.

This is what they just sent:

"This is a known issue which will be solved in the 8.X firmware.

I have a workaround for this issue by enable traffic shaper.

Please provide me HTTPS access to your appliance an I will enable it for you."

Web filtering is not as slow as the anti-virus. Try turning off anti-virus and post your results.
