I'm trying to install the Z100G router. I'm switching from a netopia router. My Questions, I use a docking station for my Dell Laptop. The docking station has only one Cat 5 Stp connection port. If I connect the wan from the Z100g to this port this leaves me with no port to connect the Cat 5 Cable. Which is my next step in the install process. My Laptop is wireless. As you can tell I'm not very computer literate! Any help?

The Z100G has 4 regular network ports (Lan) that you can use to connect computers to. The WAN port is for connecting to your cable/dsl modem.

Thanks for the reply, however when I connect the WAN to my docking station I have no other port on my docking station to connect the CAT5 Cable from the Z100G's LAN port. Is there such a thing as a splitter for the single port on my docking station that would allow me to convert the single port on my docking station into two ports. Or would this not work. Also my Netopia has a regular phone jack connection that the Z100G does not have. I'm able to get my DSL connection unless I switch back to my netopia wireless router.

The Z100G has an ethernet WAN (wide area network) port on the back. That is for connecting to the DSL/CABLE box and the Internet.

It should also have 4 ethernet ports for the LAN (local area network) in you location. Hook your dock and other network devices and computers into these using RJ45 patch cables.

Let's make this easy:

1. What type of internet service do you have?

2. How many computers wired and wireless do you have?

You should have a WAN port with a CAT 5 cable running to the DSL or cable modem. Then run one CAT 5 cable from the docking station into one fo the four LAN ports and the back of the router. The Z100G sits between the docking station and the cable/DSL modem in a daisy chain.

Look on page 4 of the setup guide. here is the link if you don't have it. http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/media/pdf/gettingStarted_z100g.pdf.

Thanks to both of you. I was on the right track, but lacked confidence to disconnect my network and wireless until I talked with someone. All is working as of now.
