We are hoping for some help for problem using remote desktop with VPN...the router at the remote location apparently blocks remote desktop app as I'm sure that it is misconfigured.

Here is the setup: The file server is installed behind a Z100G at the home location and the VPN connects just fine via the remote computer which is installed behind another Z100G at the remote location. When we attempt to launch remote desktop at the remote location, we get an error message about a network problem, etc. When we replace the Z100G at the remote location with the original D-link router, the VPN and remote desktop work perfectly.

I am convinced that I am missing something in the remote Z100G configuration; I've tried a few things but with no success. Can someone advise me how to configure the remote Z100G and get this working properly?

You should check the following things
1. did you check the bypass nat and firewall
2. since the z100g has the built in RDP since version 7.0.x please try that this way you will not have to set vpn and the RDP is also encrypted
