I have 2 laptops and a network-attached hard drive. Laptop #1 and the hard drive is connected to the Z100G via LAN ports, my other laptop (#2) is connecting via WLAN.
-
I can't get laptop #2 (WLAN) to connect to laptop #1 or the hard drive.
-
When laptop #2 is connected to the Z100G via a LAN port instead of via WLAN, laptop #2 detects and accesses my hard drive and it connects to my "share folder" on laptop #1 with NO problems, but when I switch laptop #2 back to WLAN it will not connect to laptop #1 or the hard drive.
-
I tried to setup a couple of "RULE"s to allow WLAN to connect to the LAN but laptop #2 still cannot detect the hard drive or laptop #1 via WLAN.
-
I don't know if I created the "RULE"s correctly. My rules are setup as follows:
Rule 1:
Step 1) Rule Type = Allow
Step 2) Service = Standard Service = Web Server
Step 3) Destination and Source = Source–WLAN, Destination–LAN
-
Rule 2:
Step 1) Rule Type = Allow
Step 2) Service = Standard Service = Microsoft Networking (NBT)
Step 3) Destination and Source = Source=WLAN, Destination=LAN
-
Still no luck. Can you help me?

"My network places" requires netbios which requires same subnet - you can access them via NBT: \\IP
We will soon offer a bridging option between the
WLAN and LAN for the Z100.

Please note that you can set up a WINS server to overcome this problem.

Adding an entry to hosts file on the wireless pc defining the name of the "server" on the LAN will also allow all users of the laptop to use the standard \\computername\sharename path that they probably already have shortcuts or network places defined. (with the rule as described in your original message)

My suggestion to SofaWare is WLAN computers listed as mac-filtered in the wireless setup should be treated as TRUSTED sources so you don;t have to set up all these rules to allow parental control and basic MS networking to work.
