I'm new to the group here but have had my z100g for just about 10 months and have to say has taught me much about security. It's only rebooted and acted up once in the first month when I was doing some investigation on settings. I have it right after my cable modem and have Vonge off a LAN port with no issues. Security set to High and have had no issue what so all. Actually , really like the device for my lab.

oops don't know what happened there. Anyway... VERY FRUSTRATED with the SUPPORT or should I say LACK OF SUPPORT.

I bought a D-Link at half the Price & had no problems calling up & getting a Human to help me... an admitted bonehead at most things digital... to work through issues.

I can't get my Router to act as a Printer Server... the reason i decided to buy the thing in the 1st place...

when I log onto the Zone Firewall > Network > Ports > USB it shows the Printer is visible & active but by golly my computer doesn't see it

Can anyone help?

Maybe I should just sell it to JimW

Sorry you are having issues....

I agree this product is not without it's "warts" ... the compelling reason I bought it was for the content filtering and in that area I think it has NO competition in the low end market.

I do not have any printers attached to my Z100G so can't really offer any first hand advice, but the on-line manual which has been recently updated seems pretty good... the manual tha came with your unit may be ummmmmmmmmm "less good" ;-/

Take a look at the section "Using Network Printers" in this newer edition.

Manual is here:

PS: I've got two of these things and could probably sell several more to other parents, but then I'd be on the hook for "free lifetime technical support" ... funny how that works eh?

Rick, I'm new to the Z100G, but I have to add..this product is the best router I have seen. I have always used cisco, and it does not even compare to the Z100G. I have a LAN-WAN, with email services, websites, and IRC, and have been batteling hackers on the email side specifically for ever. While I could keep them from hacking, I couldn't keep them from attacking, and it has only progressed over time to the point I was ready to shut it all down, and just have a regular internet. However, I do have a degree in Networking, and was looking for something more suitable for my situation, and found that in the Z100G. The antispam, and vstream are very good, while the attack detection settings are very good as well, alongside all the features that this device comes with. I would recommend that you keep your Z100G, and pay close attention to your settings, as the router will protect you from hackers, gateway viruses, viruses and malware. If you need some help, feel free to shoot an email to me, and I will try to help you out.

Yep, for the most part, I'll have to agree with the original poster. This Z100g is more of a pain everyday I have it.

I don't know why I can't use it as a firewall in and out of my house and have everything inside the house open. Sometimes I can connect to another pc in my house, sometimes I can't. Sometimes I can remote to another pc in my house, sometimes I can't.

My guess is that most people that get this thing don't know about this forum to vent and end up putting the z100g on a shelf and never use it again. And yes, that monthly report they sent me is useless. It says almost the exact same numbers every month. I get unsolicited spam that has more useful info in it!

It's no wonder this thing is not used by more people. It's too hard to get anything done. They give you 30 days to try it out but it takes more than 30 days to figure out if it's yourself causing the problem or the router so by the time you figure out that the router is a total pain, it's too late, you're stuck with it.

Sometimes DHCP works, sometimes it doesn't. It has a "feature" to save your config so I do but then if I make a change and restore that config to reverse the change, nothing changes. What is the import/export thing supposed to do if not put settings back to the saved config??

I'm sure if you're more of a network guru than I am, this thing could be made to work the way I want it to, but that's not the audience this thing is being sold to.

I don't know of any "customer satisfaction" survey type thing that they do. If they would poll their customer and find out their complaints, they might be able to make this product better for the general public.
