I purchased the Z100G Router back on February 16, 2007. I can't use it because it does not allow my wireless computers to communicate with my wired computers and network storage hard drive.
-
I have been told there is an upgrade coming soon that will fix this problem with some kind of a "Bridge" feature.
-
Since I can't use the Z100G router I had to disconnect it and reconnect my original router in order to use my internet connection.
-
Can you confirm for me that there really is an "Upgrade" coming?
-
Approximately when to expect the upgrade to be available?
-
And most importantly, since the router is not connected it will not be able to receive the upgrade automatically so I need to know will the upgrade be available for download from your web site?
-
If it will be available for download from your web site then I will just keep checking the site for the upgrade.
-
If it will only be available via automatic download, how will I know when to reconnect the Z100 router in order to load the upgrade?

Hi Phil,

Your appliance doesn't need to be on to receive the update; It will download the latest version automatically as soon as it is switched on.

We will announce the availability of the new firmware in this forum.

We are confident that the new update will ease your migration to the Z100G, and thank you for your patience.

Phil, why don't you just setup a rule that the source is Service is any, source is WLAN and destination is LAN? Then you wireless devices will be able to acces your LAN. If you want to connect to your wired computers by name, add a host file to the wireless computers with the name and IP address of the wired computers.

Am I to infer that a new update will allow bridging between the wired and wireless?

Actually that works for *most* things, not all..
Stuff that uses multicast or broadcast packets still has a hard time traversing the wan/lan/wlan even with the rule applied...

I know Itunes's streaming and Windows Home Server dont like traversing from wireless to lan even with the rules set.

Though it worked for printing from the Z100 using wireless clients...

Phil..

Bridging is supposed to resolve a lot of minor/not so minor issues with the Z100..

Upgrades.. When you plug the router back in, it will try to download the upgrade... Wait a day or two after they post the new version into the blog however (ZA version usually comes a day or so after the main version).. You can always force update using the services | Software updates tab and issue a Update Now using the button on that tab of the interface...

In the meantime, i assume youve already tried the rule trick, which helps with some, but not all issues..

As to release, the last remark i saw from Erez was a week, but that sort of has expired... thinking it could be in the next 7-10 buisness days... or any time soon.. your preference..

Heh the netgear boxes sound interesting but man, they are greedy with ip addresses.. Think if my budget allows i might go with ReadyNas or something.. Kinda like how they have a built in streaming audio server to Squeezebox'en...

Hope this helps
