How do you configure the Z100G router to work with Windows Home Server? I cannot connect to the server from my main PC and I suspect it's the Z100G's lack of UPnP capability. It appears that there may be settings I can change to make WHS work, but I wouldn't know where to start. I'd appreciate someone's help.

Is your main PC wireless?

If so, you need to create proper firewall rules allowing the required traffic from the wireless network (WLAN) into the wired LAN.

Z100 is a secure router, meaning that traffic between the WLAN and LAN is governed by the security policy.

Thanks for the quick response. All of my PCs are wired via Cat6 Ethernet, including my main PC. My daughter uses the wireless component of the router when she brings her laptop home from college. I hope this is helpful.

The Z100G does not block any traffic between two LAN ports. So, it seems unlikely that this problem is caused by the Z100G. It might be some configuration issue on your Home Server.

Another possibility is firewall software on either the server or the PC. I found this to be the issue when I couldn't find my printer.

I created a network object for the WHS server.. These rules seemed to work, cept you must make sure your software firewall is also set to let things through.

1 Allow and Forward WAN (Internet) This Gateway:8000 - 8008 (TCP) Forward To : HomeServer (Network Object)

2 Allow and Forward WAN (Internet) This Gateway:8080 - 8085 (TCP) Forward To : HomeServer (Network Object)

3 Allow and Forward WAN (Internet) This Gateway:443 (TCP) Forward To : HomeServer (Network Object)

4 Allow and Forward WAN (Internet) This Gateway:4125 (TCP) Forward To : HomeServer (Network Object)

I also went to the servers tab and pointed web/ftp and Microsoft networking to the host IP of the WHS server.. (might be redundant but i dont have the WHS server up right now... have to upgrade it to release) Since you created a Network Object for the WHS server its *safe* to use the IP for it, since it will always get it assigned.

My ISP does NOT allow web hosts on port 80, but does seem to allow the https: port through and WHS will do its buisness over the secure port

Hope this helps some
(texas feel free to correct me on this..)
