I just installed a NAS on my network (HPMediaVault). I had no problems installing it, and didn't make any modifications to the router configuration, which is pretty vanilla, with a LAN and WLAN bridge; no special rules. I run Zone Alarm Security Suite on my PCs.

I've set up file shares on the NAS, open to anyone in the workgroup. I plan to store sensitive data there (e.g., financial and email). Do I need to put additional security on the NAS, or will the Z100G provide adequate protection?

I just added a rule to block any service coming from the WAN (Internet) to the NAS. Is that sufficient?

You might also consider blocking all traffic from the NAS drive to the WAN.

I have an ethernet attached drive also and it kept taking one of the licenses (it kept wanting to update its time). So I blocked it.

I have been doing the same since I purchased my Z100G last year. I have a NAS set up and running blocked all inbound/outbound traffic to it. Only internal LAN addresses can connect to it. Good for some peace of mind.

I installed HPMediaVault; however, I am unable to see the device from the wireless network. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

I's hard to know with very little information as to how the router is configured and how you are trying to acess it, but the first suspicion I would have is that you need to bridge the WAN and LAN networks under the Network ---> My network tab.

The other possibility is that you are using a protocol (ex, FTP) that is not being passed either on the network or by the wireless client.

I was wondering if he bridged the wireless myself... might want to put in a rule or two to thwart "unauthorized" wireless traffic..... just to be on the safe side
