Good afternoon.

I'm interested in getting the Z100G for my home network. I have more that 5 devices, but am wondering about the following:

Vonage
Network Printer
NAS
Tivo (two)

Will these actually be considered registered devices and not let anything else access or will the Z100G not look at these as being "registered" and still allow other machines to access internet.

Thanks.

Vonage yep unless you have a passthrough and put the vonage box before the router... (some models allow this, but then you have to use your DSL/Cable/ETC to authenticate PPPoE if it exists)

Network printer.. sometimes...
NAS,... every IP address it uses, is a license
Tivo.. each one will probably take up a license since they access the net

Thanks. If I do this, I'll probably need to purchase the upgrade to 15 users.

Can you also have firewalls, virus protection, etc. on your PC in addition to the Z100G?

Thanks again.

You bet!, the thing is (answering your other questions) that the 5 device limit is for Internet access, you can have 5 device at a time accessing the net (read Internet) but you can have countless device "in" the LAN o WLAN.

so far so good Smile

Erez or ZA person:

I would really like to understand better how the 5 client limit is defined.
My network attached printer NEVER connects to the internet, but I read some people saying their printer does get counted against the ceiling.

I will be adding a NAS device which will never "need" to access the internet, but again how do I keep it from being counted?

Likewise, what about a WAP does it (as well as wireless clients connecting THRU it) get counted?

How long does it take for the router to "age out" a connection if say a friend comes over and used the wireless access point?

Thanks,
Jim

I am ready to buy, but need to understand if I have to save up an extra $100 or not which would delay / kill the purchase ;-)

I'm going to reply to my own post, having hammered the KB and found answers... according to the KB (and assuming they apply to the Z100g)

1) An IP node will take up a license if it generates traffic through the firewall. In order to prevent a node from generating traffic through the firewall, you'll need to set the node up with no default gateway information. Please note that this will make the node unable to surf the Internet.

My comment: I think this means that any devices you want excluded will need to have a static address assigned as DHCP devices will be given the gateway IP along with their device address.

2) An IP node will release its license after 60 minutes of not generating traffic through the firewall. An IP node which released its license is displayed in blue color in the Active Computers page.
