Received my Z100G about 10 days ago. Had absolutely no difficulty setting it up, and it has worked flawlessly since. Extremely happy with it's performance.
Then, yesterday afternoon, after a 2-minute power outage to the Z100G, one of the wireless PCs in the other building (connected thru a Range Expander) failed to connect. The wireless PCs connecting directly to the Z100G on this side of the RE were not affected. Node limit was not exceeded, so deduced that the Range Expander was at fault. Decided to re-configure it, and at the same time, to set up a WPA-encrypted network to replace the WEP used initially for compatibility with the previous router's setup. Yeahhh, I know, NEVER do more than one thing at a time... I should know better... not only did the WPA setup fail miserably, but after that NONE of my wireless PCs would connect. The only thing left working was the LAN between the router and the setup PC. Then spent more time re-setting everything back to WEP, but still couldn't get the WLAN going again... nothing would connect... each wireless PC still had a red X in its systray wireless icon and all said "not connected". Finally, in frustration, I once again trod where angels fear, and re-set the Z100G to its factory defaults and re-ran the setup wizard. Bad idea! Even though I used all the supplied codes, the new setup left the Z100G in bad shape, with the following problems... 1. ANTIVIRUS: Warnings... "No signatures database installed" on both Main and Daily databases, and "The Antivirus engine is not active". It also said that the next update would be in about 30 minutes. Well, first I tried hitting "Update now", but that did not get the databases, but it did reset the "next update" time stamp to 30 minutes. OK, so I waited until well past that time for it to update automatically, but it didn't, so I hit "Update now" again, but it didn't, but it did reset the "next update" ahead 30 minutes. Never going to get to bed that way! 2. SERVICES: Web filtering is set to on, but the page of settings for individual types of content isn't there. 3. SOFTWARE UPDATES says "Updating now...", but it isn't. Hitting "Update now" doesn't work. 4. REPORTS/WIRELESS/STATUS: Shows several hundred wrong NWID/SSID received. OK, it's now a few minutes after dawn, and I've been at this all night. Going to hit the sack, and hope someone can help me untangle this mess... please, and thank you in advance. TiredDawg |

Yes, thank you for this. Found that the Antivirus databases had updated while I was writing my first post. However, I still have the problem of nothing will connect to the wireless and many NWID/SSID errors received. Thanks ValleyDawg |

The rest of the story: Got up after 3 hours sleep and temporarily substituted the old Dell router for the Z100G. All problems unchanged... still couldn't connect to wireless. Concluded nothing wrong with the Z100G, so put it back into service. At that point, my wife asked innocently "Why not simply restore the laptop to where it was before the crash?" Brilliant... why hadn't I ever thought of that? So I restored it, and lo and behold, everything worked fine again. This experience taught me even more about... 1. Not trying to do several things at once, 2. Not reflexively blaming the router or range expander 3. The total counter-productiveness of troubleshooting after midnight, and 4. Wifely wisdom. Thanks Bonnie! Thanks Sofaware team! DumbButHappyDawg |
