Hello,
I am eyeballing this router as a potential upgrade to an old, but faithful wireless b router that has served me well for many years.

Overall-would you recommend this router to your friends?

Betty,
In general i have been happy with the ZA 100...
It originally had a few issues, and did not handle transparent bridging intiially when I got it...

This has been fixed in firmware...

The only slight issue I have right now is people have reported some issues with the Autodetect of AES/TKIP when using wireless.. it can be resolved remotely but there is a permanent fix in the works..

In general i like the zonealarm box. the only catch is that it does do node licensing (each internet connecting device requires a license, it comes with 5, you can get 10 more for about 99$ us (no, theres no 5/10/15, just 5 or 15 at this point...

In general it seems a bit snappier and doesnt seem to bog down my network quite as much as some of the other boxes iv used.. and I was actually somewhat impressed with the phyisical hardware quality..

The only other shortcoming is the Z100 doesn't currently support Syslog, and is a bit of a bone of contention between the developers and the prosumers.. It has a log, you can export it to a Excel file right from the router, but stuff can/does roll-off the routers log if it gets full, though you will get a report emailed to you once a week...

Hope this helps

As bugeek stated, I'm happy with this piece of hardware and the few annoyance I've got are already ironed out or in the way to.
I'm a happy customer from South America.

Regards...

BSB,

Like the others who posted here, i am satisfied with the unit. My only wishes are for a more reasonable add-on license pak and URL white-listing the latter which I am told is coming very soon.

One thing I want to point out is that the real value in this unit is not its wireless or LAN functionality, but the unseen level of sophisticated security that is built in. I used several leak test sites against this and three other units that claimed they had firewall features built in, but this is the only unit that passed with flying colors.

I think its an excellent security device, given its pedigree.

Thanks for all the responses. TR-I agree with you on the security features, and check point is more than reputable in that department. Thanks for the confirmation that the security6 passed those leak tests you ran. And the built in print server is a big plus-all things considered-the price seems reasonable for those features.

My concerns are: I see one user had a problem with a printer in the same genre as mine, and another possibly ran into the AES/TKIP bug when trying to connect a lifebook (of which I have one). I hate to finally decide on one, and trade my problem free wireless b for a new set of headaches in exchange for faster speed and better security.
:-)

Thanks again,
BSB

Well-I decided to give it a try. I get 30 days to try and work out any kinks....

I'll let you know what I think when I receive the unit and hook it up.

Quick question for those of you who have used the print server. Since my printer is already installed to my PC, I'm assuming I can skip the reinstallation of the printer drivers, right? Or do you think it would be better to completely uninstall my printer from my PC, and then proceed fresh following the manual step by step to be on the safe side?

I think you made a wise decision for the security of your network. I do not have a printer connected to the Z100G because my new printer is Ethernet ready and connected to a switch in my home office, but based on the installation instructions from Zonelabs, the process is the same as with any other print server. I have hooked up many printers on print servers over the years, and usually any problems are related to the LAN itself.

You should be able to use your existing drivers without having to reinstall them. However, if you have issues, do contact tech support. They will troubleshoot with you.

Best of luck and do not hesitate to look up the folks on this forum for help. they are very knowledgeable.

Thanks for the info, TexasRocket. I'll be sure and keep an eye on the forum. Device specific forums are usually a good source of information.

On the Lifebook. in *ADDITION* to the AES/TKIP fix, I also had to upgrade to the latest atheros WLAN from fujitsu's website.. And i ended up going back to windows managing the wifi since i still had problems with it changing profiles.. it didnt want to change to the profile that would connect to the ZA for some reason... As an aside. i highly recommend updating the fingerprint authenticaiton.. it sped up my windows login drmatically if you havent done it.

Thanks for the info bugeek. My Lifebook is a work assigned device, and I didn't bring it home this weekend. I'll take care of those updates-I appreciate the heads up.

Just a follow up to this for others who may have a lifebook. I didn't run into any trouble getting my lifebook authenticated with the Z100G and online. (My security at the Z100 is WPA-PSK set at TKIP). I am using the Windows WZC though rather than the Atheros Utility.
