I have tried a few different ways but I do not see how to access the SYSLOG. According to the Knowledge Base it say that you can access them.

Z100G KB - Syslog

Could someone please explain how...

Thank you.

To read the logs on the device,
via GUI: Reports --> Event Log
via Command Line: type info logs

To have the logs sent elsewhere:
Setup --> Logging --> Configure syslog server

Check Point CMA can accept these if you are managing the device centrally. Also, there are additional steps that need to be taken if you want to send them to a CLM. Let me know if these steps would be useful for you.

Thanks for the reply but no go at this point...

I am running a Z100G Firm:7.0.31x and under the SETUP menu I have 4 options (Tabs) to pick from. (Firmware, Remote Desktop, Management, Tools) I do not see anything about logging. Can you please help further. Thank you.

I do know about viewing them but I need to be able to capture my logs and trap port scans, etc to the persons ISP, exporting through the Event log is only x lines and not the whole picture... In order for me to report activity on my IP's I need to capture the whole list from start to finish.

The Z100 does not offer support for Syslog.

Well if that is true then why is it in your Knowledge Base that it does support SYSLOG?

Do you have any plans to add that feature?

Is there another way I can get it to dump log files before it wraps in Z100G?

Syslog is supported in the Safe@Office series as well as some of the other series - the KB item will be updated to note either which have it or which don't have it.

Syslog is not planned to be added since the Z100 was desined for home/SOHO usage.

Do you guys take requests for product improvement. This would be tops on my list even in my SOHO environment. The z100g is capturing this information. I really want to collect this data locally for my evaluation. The CLI interface allows me to set the syslog configuration (which does nothing of course, but its there.). The reports are nice, but I could derive greater granularity if I had access to the full logs.

DiviniT, "Setup" only has tabs for Firmware, Remote Desktop, Management, and Tools; no logging. Even though I'm subscribed to logging and reporting, there's no option to configure it.

From the KB:
"Embedded NGX appliances (excluding ZoneAlarm Secure Wireless Router Z100G) support Syslog logging. Using Syslog logging you can save the ongoing events generated by your appliance even beyond the current 100 events."

Security reports is a service provided via the service center which allows you to receive the periodical security report via email (not SNMP/SYSlog).

As I mentioned in a another thread, the Z100G should support USB keys plugged into the ports on the back.

Many users won't be using the 2nd USB port (or even the first in some cases) and it's a shame for that port to go to waste when a storage device could be there collecting your log info.

Who wants to keep a system running and wasting precious electricity when it could all be done on one device. I hope there are still plans to add some new functionality to this router so early in it's life cycle.

Well I hope you reconcider this. It is a VERY Importaint feature to have, and I do not believe I have ran across a home/SOHO appliance that did not have some SYSLOG capabilities. I have already caught 2 port scans that I have reported, I do not know how many I have missed cause there is not enough logs available for me to go through unless I check once an hour, so a way for me to save my logs to review once a week would be great. I also know that you have this feature on in order to send me the reports once a week.

Thank you for your time.

Can people stop asking about Syslog for the Z100G.. What part of *NO its not supported do you not understand*

As i said to someone else whining about this.. Yes it is a shortcoming but at this point they dont intend on adding it in fear of diluting the value of their commercial offerings..

According to Erez the answer is a resounding *NO* at this current time.. who is to say they might reconsider but pushing the issue repeatedly is not going to improve the situation. I mean, heck my Westell 327R modem/router has it. But if you people keep pushing the issue it wont be done.. Heck, they might surprise us in a future update..

I am sorry, but you are what part of this conversation? My Message was to Erez and Sofaware.

As read off the threads in the Z100 group

So when/if they do it, it will be a surprise as per my previous posting. Its obviously under consideration but not at the expense of reducing the value of their "Soho/Professional" products

We will consider adding syslog in the future.

Having had issues with VOIP and now having an ADSL to Ethernet bridge, the Z100G is subjected to the rigours of the Internet and those who persist in trying to gain access to my network via the internet or wireless.

Along with this I have my own connections and info that gets logged. I have just been to the Shields UP test on http://grc.com and tested out the connection I saw the results on GRC and wanted to see how the Z100G handled the "attack" so I went to the reports page and "saved" the log info and to my dismay it seems only the last 500 lines are present.

I really have to say that even for home use the ability to provide SYSLOG output so I can capture over time ALL the log message is essential - it also provides me with a historic record should I need to use it in the case of a successful attempt to circumvent the Z100G.

Given the number of requests for this I really do hope that SYSLOG output will be available in the next release. I feel that if this is not done we as users of the Z100G would have some comeback if we showed that we had requested this and Sofaware had not provided it. Especially if it was required to show someone had appropriated my bandwidth illegally over a period of time.

I need a 24/7 capability to log what happens on my network - Yes even at home! so I can prove what happened at a particular time. With the best will in the world all security can be circumvented and I am not watching the log personally 24/7 which is what it would mean at this time. I can have software look and analyse my logs for my purposes should I feel the need.

It is not as thought this is something that needs to be written it is just something that needs to be enabled - it is already in the product and currently disabled.

Sofaware PLEASE enable us to do this - it is essential for us to have the ability to log this information if we so desire to do it.

Its not even like we are asking for something for nothing (money wise), most if not all network elements allow for this functionality either as SYSLOG or SNMP.

Thanks for listening (and hopefully acting)
