I've been using time based rules in my s@o 500w for some time now and found it to be a very valuable feature. Lately I noticed however, that while time based rules work well for new connections, existing connections are not affected by them at all.
Example: I want Instant Messenger communication (ICQ ...) only to be allowed at certain times of the day. So I set up time based rules to block this kind of traffic. While these rules effectively prevent users from opening new IM sessions, existing IM sessions continue to run well beyond the set time limit (presumably as long as the IM client on the workstation holds the connection). Is there any way to close those existing connections at the specified time to be able to block them as well? |

I dug this old post up because I'm curious if it's still the same way with the Safe@Office unit.
I've got a ZoneAlarm Z100g router, which uses Checkpoint firmware. Looking at screen shots of the Safe@Office unit, it appears the operate the same. But I'm curious if they ever "fixed" the issue with time rules on the Safe@Office devices? On my Z100g that I've had a couple years, it still does the same as this original poster states. Any current connection of the type that falls outside a time-based rule will continue to run. Only new connections that fall outiside the time window will be blocked. So this means anyone playing online games (WoW) or IM communications will continue as long as they're never closed and re-opened once the time slot is elapsed. If this feature is fixed or has been added to one of the "Enterprise" units, I may purchase one instead of the money I'm about to spend to upgrade from 5 to 15 users on the Z100g. |
