I did upgrade and I had some blocking issues with EA 8 (couldn't access the gateway's web admin page and internet from time to time for about 1 min. each time).

So I just went back to 7.5.55x and everything was working fine again. :-) I did not change my config.

I run a 500WP (P = Power Pack) and I'm using Wireless and VLANs etc.

SofaWare tells me that they have upgraded hundreds of gateways without having any problems.

Did debug it on Live Help. Could be a issue when using VLANs (Power Pack needed). SofaWare will check on that.

Hi Tom.

I ran into the same problem and have collected another 53 people who have experienced this as well. This problem has nothing to do with VLANS! It appears to be some "feature" of the update. When it works, it works well. There are times when the connection to the firewall and the internet are lost for a couple of minutes. One thing I have observed in the logs at the point where connection is lost is: Ext_WAN_IP as source, no source port, Ext_WAN_IP as destination, ICMP 8 (echo request) as service, Spoofed IP is the reason and -4, yes, minus 4 is the Rule. Between the previous working firmware rev and the new update there were NO changes either on the firewall, routers or attached machines. I too am thinking about a down-grade of the firmware.

Thank you both for the valuable information. I'm thinking that I might wait to load it until another rev comes out.

Tom: Can you tell me how you managed to do a down-grade? Would really like to get this running again.

In order to downgrade your Embedded NGX EA 8 (or another version) to a lower version of NGX you can ask Technical Support (open a ticket) or Live Help. I think you need to have a valid Software Supscripition.

@chrisb: My issue was really related to the use with VLANS. SofaWare is investigating on the issue.

Debugging the issue with SofaWare Live Help we could find a workaround (switching a port from port-based VLAN back to LAN) and I upgraded again to EA 8.0 which is running stable now.

I've been running version 8 since it came out and have had no problems. I can't say I've explored a lot of the features however the security reporting has been improved. There's also a nice "status" page which shows the device statistics - uptimes, memory/cpu usage, interface statuses etc

You need to have a subscription and simply contact tech support to get on their "Early Availability" program.

I guess this is a "bump".

Just curious if anyone new is using the 8x version and what their success has been thus far.

Thanks,

I like is. The OSPF is a bit improved and the BGP just plain sucks. I don't use BGP outside my lab though.

Router GUI software Router GUI software Router GUI software Router GUI software
i have a solution that will amaze you by giving a GUI to all your problem u face to use telnet and giving commands to routers to do something and to receive huge amount of data.

this software is developed by me and running in a huge network of Ericsson . with a single click it go to all the routers and get the results against commands like

show system process summary
show chassis alarms
show system users
show system storage
blah blah blah
many other commands what ever u want i can do for u. any thing u use to telnet i can do for u.
software shows proper GUI results with graphs and also prepares reports.

-a single configration command can be run on selected routers
-u can apply filters
-information is hown in grids which are further exportable in excel.
-threshlds will be seprated in a red report.

it shows the certain thresholds with RED color. and develop a report called 'red report' for all the alarming results.

screen shoots can be downloaded from
scorpio[dot]sidra[dot]googlepages[dot]com[slash]screenshoots[dot]zip

i can reform the solution on your needs.

We have now 20 edge running 8.0.24. 19 are running as wireless hotspot connected to some radius server with over 34k users (students...) I can confirm some high cpu load and hang on gui for about 1 minute during vpn routing operation or hotspot access with https redirection.

But I think this will be the best firmware since a lot of time, I'm looking forward to upgrade all the edge with GA version.

Ciao
