I have recently installed the Nessus Service to a Windows 2003 server.
I configured the SMP as indicated in the Administrators guide. The Test Configuration reports that the VSS Server connected successfully. I, then, configured a plan to use the Vulnerability Scan service and have put 5 gateways into that plan. When I choose Scan Now, the General Log reports that the Vulnerability Scan task started. I also notice under Tasks, that Calculating hosts to scan is In Progress. However, the scan doesn't seem to go beyond this point. The current configuration is that the server hosting the Nessus Server is behind a Safe@ and is providing NAT. I'm not sure if this is causing my problem, or if its something else. Any suggestions for what might be the hang-up? Thanks, Rich |

Hi Rich,
Currently we recommend to use the Linux Nessus. We'll check the Windows Nessus in order to support it as well in the near future. Regards, Yael |

You might have this fixed by now but Linux is highly recommended. Also, I would not put it behind a safe@office because your scans will not be accurate. The IPS will block a lot of your outgoing scans.
