I am becoming more and more frustrated with my 500W appliance so I am posting my views here, as you say you are interested in our needs - lets see how interested shall we.

Firstly I think your licensing policy is rubbish and so far from today's reality that it begs the question - when was the last time you guys went out into the real world? The 5, 25, unlimited licensing has been in place with CP since the early '90s and has never changed! No matter that the whole computing world has changed around you. There are now a myriad of different types of equipment that requires internet access; from the occasional (mobile phones) through to the always-on internet radios or home NAS systems. I would like to see you change your licensing to be increments of only 5 – this way after a Christmas bonanza of iPod-touches may main household servers do not get blocked.

Secondly, I want to allocate the licenses to the machines I want to be licensed – why should you impose the use of a license by me using a default route – where is the sense in that? Not only that but you don’t even let me release a license when I want, I have to wait 1 whole hour for your dumb appliance to release it – so all I need to happen is my son to use his mobile phone to get his email and again my main server is blocked!

Thirdly, I want to be able to restrict the WEB sites available to my children at different times of the day. During the time they are doing their homework I want only reference sites to be available. For example:- between 17h and 20h only access to *.wikipedia.org and *.encyclopaedia.com and *.dictionary.com etc.

Fourthly, I want to be able to shutdown all connections from certain systems at certain times. At 21h on the day before school days I want all connections to the internet cut. Notice – I say BEFORE school days – this means Sunday thought to Thursday, not Monday to Friday!

Fifthly, when are you going to increase the speed of your ports to Gigabit? With music and movie streaming you are a long way behind your competitors.

Sixthly, I support the calls in this forum for an easy way of connecting wireless extenders/bridges etc in an easy way – I can’t belive how complicated you make such a simple task as extending WiFi to another floor in my house (with reinforced concrete acting as a faraday cage – no the WiFi does not go through!)

Unless most of these requirements are fulfilled I for one will be looking for a cheaper alternative when my subscription runs out – or installing a proxy to get round all of your blinkered restrictions.

Looking forward to your reply.
Regards
Paul
