Ok, so I have a unique problem that's put me in a bind. I spent over $1000.00 on this UTM-Edge device that I manage with my Check Point SmartCenter. I love it but...
This UTM-Edge device is on an ISPs network that doesn't support static IP addresses. As it turns out I can't purchase the Dynamic DNS service from Check Point or Sofaware so I can find the device on the internet, provide my users with a SecureClient connection, or offer other services. It seems as though I must choose between managing the device centrally using my SmartCenter, which was the whole point to getting the UTM-Edge device and not a Safe@500, or subscribing to the sofaware Dynamic DNS service. Sounds like a strange choice to me. It's encouraging to see that syslog was finally added to the Z100G, so hopefully externally managed dynamic DNS, such as dyndns.com or no-ip.com will be added to at least the UTM-Edge devices in the not so distant future. I know I could add a dynamic DNS software client behind the UTM-Edge, but this location so happens to have no computers at all. Only VoIP phones and energy management equipment. Seems strange to me that a $40.00 Linksys can do this, and has been doing it for years, but a $1000.00+ UTM-Edge can't. |
