I've got a couple of gateways that I'm using that keep on establishing sessions with our SmartCenter LSM management and then drop offline (apparently by choice). Once they do this a number of times, they begin logging an error:
Error-40012: Possible Load Balancing Loop: Max base servers switches per hour reached [switches: 10] This appears to have started after we applied HFA03 to our Provider-1 instance. What's going on here? |

Our appliance has a mechanism that prevents gateways from switching too many times between SMSs in order to prevent load balancing loops. In SmartCenter (with management HA) the load balancing is very limited - all gateways are directed to the active SmartCenter. Probably there's some kind of an error that causes the gateways not to be able to connect to the primary but when they failover to the secondary it sends them back to the primary. In order to solve this please search for the error in the Tracker or run the SMS from the command line. Please know as well that issues like these are supported by the Checkpoint Enterpirse Support Team > If you need more help on this issue please contact Checkpoint TAC: http://www.checkpoint.com/corporate/contact_americas.html#services |
