I need to change the external IP of an Edge X that's managed by SmartCenter R55 HFA17. I changed it OK on the Edge after it was set up and tested and shipped it off . Now that it's in its new location on its new IP address, I need to set SmartCenter to manage it. When I change the IP in its gateway object in the SmartCenter, I get this dialog box:

"The VPN-1 Edge Gateway's current configuration will cause the Certificate to be removed. Note: An exported Certificate can no longer be used and has to be handled accordingly. Are you sure you want to continue and remove the Certificates defined for this node?"

What the heck is this trying to tell me and why does changing an IP address and not the object name have anything to do with certificates?

What are the implications of letting it do this? I need to manage the box remotely and its now in another state, and I cannot screw up its current pushed policy. I think it's on 6.0.53 firmware.

Thanks,

Ray

I opened a case with CP on this. The certificate pulled from the SmartCenter by the Edge is based on the Edge IP address, so changing the Edge's external IP address will break things.

After you change the Edge's external IP address in SmartCenter, you need to login to the Edge using the web interface. Just go into Services you'll see that it is disconnected from the Service Center. Just go through the same process as you did originally to connect it to the SmartCenter and the connection will be re-established. No muss, no fuss.
