Hello,
does anyone knows how can we configure an secondary SMP server on a Smartcenter managed edge. We have to change the internet provider and with these the IP-address of the SMP server changes. Normally we have to go to all edges and define the new IP address for the servicecenter connection. But with 60 edges this is a lot of work and travelling. Maybee we can define an additional connection, so if the providers is changed the new address is known for the edge. any help are welcome regards Wolfgang |

Hi Wolfgang,
I am not sure what you are trying to achieve, an edge is either managed by SmartCenter or by SMP... In case you are using SMP, you should install a secondary SMP on the new machine, make sure the server gets defined in the SMP and after you do the transition, change the standby SMP to active and vice-versa. If you are referring to SmartCenter, you will have to define HA for the management, and after the transition, change your standby management to active. HTH, /Shachar. |

The edges are managed via SmartCenter. If we configure a edge we can only configure one IP-Address as servicecenter connection. Maybee there is a chance to define a secondary service connection as backup like the backup gateway for VPN tunnels?

When you connect an edge to the management, you indeed define only one IP. But if your environment is HA environment, then the edge gets both management servers IP addresses. when the primary server stops responding, the SMS would automatically change to the second server.

Dear Shachar,
thanks for your response. How can we check that the edges getting the secondary IP of the HA-management. The "set smp server ..." on the edge shows only one IP-address. Wolfgang |

On the edge UI, Go to:
Setup->Tools->Diagnostics. Under the "Subscription Services" section you will see "Current Server 1" & "Current Server 2". HTH, /Shachar. |

Are there any command line option to check these. We have very slow connections via GPPRS to the edges, so the web interface isn't usable.

Wolfgang,
Unfortunately there is no other way to view this other than what I described. /Shachar. |
